Poplar trees

''Trees are poems the earth writes upon the sky, We fell them down and turn them into paper,That we may record our emptiness.'' Kahlil Gibran

Poplars in Birmingham, UK
Birmingham is a very green city and has a great number of trees. Many large trees can be found in the Southern side of the city and, apart from the odd Redwood here and there, the tallest are generally the poplars.

Young poplars in Selly park, Birmingham, putting on height fast (the man in the picture is 6ft tall)
Lombardy Poplar on Shenley Fields Rd, South Birmingham

Another Lombardy poplar on the periphery of the University of Birmingham
Very tall poplar in Longbridge, Birmingham
(look carefully to see which house it stands beside to get an idea of how tall it is)
Poplar in Cannon Hill Park, Birmingham, taken in 2008. One of the tallest trees in the city, perhaps the tallest.  Probably about 40+ metres tall. Still standing.

The same Poplar in Cannon Hill Park, taken in 2016
At the base with my full size scooter. It really is a monumental tree.
